Nuisance Skunk Control

Humane, Effective, and Eco-Responsible Skunk Removal

At Sanders Wildlife Solutions, our goal is simple: to help you live safely and peacefully—without unwanted wildlife invading your space. Skunks might be cute from a distance, but when they take up residence under your porch or start digging in your yard, they become a serious nuisance. We’re here to help—using humane, long-term, and eco-friendly solutions that work.

Why Skunks can be such a nuisance

While skunks aren’t typically aggressive, their presence can cause real problems:

  • Health Risks: Skunks can carry rabies and other harmful diseases. Their spray can also cause eye and skin irritation for people and pets.
  • Property Damage: These animals dig for grubs, damage lawns, and can burrow under decks, sheds, and crawlspaces—compromising structural integrity.
  • Odor Issues: A single spray can leave a sulfuric smell that lasts for days—or even weeks.

If you’ve noticed digging in your yard, holes near your foundation, or that unmistakable smell, it might be time to call in the pros.

Our Skunk Control Approach: Hollistic. Thorough. Lasting.

We don’t believe in quick fixes. That’s why we follow the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach. That means we can:

✔ Inspect the entire property
✔ Remove the skunks in accordance with RIGL
✔ Offer long-term exclusion and prevention strategies

Our goal isn’t just to remove the animal—it’s to make sure the problem doesn’t come back.

How to Prevent Skunks From Moving In

You can do a lot to keep skunks away before needing to call a proffesional—without harming them or using chemicals. Here are some tried-and-true tips:

🍽️ Remove Food Sources

  • Secure trash cans with tight-fitting lids
  • Clean up birdseed spills
  • Don’t leave pet food outside
  • Keep compost bins closed
  • Pick up fallen fruit in the yard

🏡 Eliminate Shelter

  • Seal off crawlspaces, porches, decks, and sheds
  • Use strong mesh or hardware cloth to block access
  • Bury fencing at least 12″ down to stop burrowing

🌿 Maintain Your Landscape

  • Keep shrubs and brush trimmed back
  • Remove piles of wood, junk, or overgrowth where skunks might hide

What If Skunks Have Already Moved In?

If skunks are living under your deck or in your crawlspace, don’t panic—we’ve got you covered:

Step 1: Inspection

We locate the entry points and assess any damage or nesting.

Step 2: Eviction and Exclusion

In the specific case of for example skunks burrowing and residing underneath a deck, we can install one-way doors so skunks can leave—but can’t come back to continue residence.

Trapping and Removal – When It’s Necessary

Sometimes, eviction methods aren’t enough. In that case, we use humane traps to safely remove skunks from your property. Our team is trained to do this carefully—minimizing stress to the animal and risk to you.

Note: Trapping wildlife is regulated in many areas. Leave it to professionals who understand the law—and how to do it right.

Dealing with Skunk Spray? Here’s What to Do

If you, your pet, or your home got sprayed, try this popular DIY odor remover:

Mix:

  • 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide
  • ¼ cup baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon liquid dish soap

Use immediately (do not store). Scrub affected areas, rinse well, and ventilate the space thoroughly.
